After a week of sitting cross legged many of us are getting extremely sore in the legs and the back. After hours and hours the pain is really challenging. the muscles that run up and down along my shins sometimes get hot from being stretched for so long in cross legged posture. My feet no longer go numb so its starting to get alot easier. I enjoy the hot sensation to my muscles and think its amazing the progress that is occurring. I am thankful for this experience because this would have never occurred back home but here it is normal.
The cross legged posture is called Sukhasana. The purpose of this posture is to stop the blood flow to the legs and increase the blood flow to the organs and heart. It controls blood pressure, digestion, menstral cycles, colitis and tones the parasympathetic system. It is the most common posture for meditation.
